Notes on Kite Aerial Photography: Photo Gallery
This is probably my favorite beach image from the trip. The print is
exquisitely detailed with rich color in both water and beach. The wave's crest has the
wind-blown spray that appeals to me so while the water's surface has just enough sun glint
to reveal its texture (28K jpg right, Canon 24-mm, June 1999).
These images do not require too much accompanying explanation. As I went about
photographing houses for Richard Sterman I also shot images of the adjacent surfline (as
is my want.) Here are some samples.
A quartet of oblique and plan shots. The upper left
image (44K jpg) provides and interesting gradient in which the water's surface varies from
blue through blue-green to green as the angle of incidence with the water's surface
becomes steeper. The upper right image (32K jpg) captures a cresting wave in plan. The
lower right image (27K jpg) feature delicate wisps of entrained air in the backwash of the
most recent wave. These provide an ephemeral highlight of aquamarine color (gee, I wonder
how they named that color?) Finally, the lower left image (28K jpg) is a plan shot
featuring son Charlie for scale (Canon 24-mm, June 1999).
As I shot a few scenes in Haleiwa I noticed this group just
hanging out in the water and a couple of hours later they were still there. Again
interesting juxtaposition of water and bottom surfaces (41K jpg left and 30K jpg
right, Canon 24-mm, June 1999).
Low-level, oblique view of Charlie Benton on Sunset Beach. The Oahu beaches
I've photographed often have steep faces along the shore break. (15K jpg, Canon
24-mm, June 1999).
