Master of Architecture
STUDIO ONE is a one-year, post-professional design studio intended for those who have a professional (accredited Bachelor of Architecture) degree, and wish to continue to explore current design issues in a stimulating, rigorous, and experimental studio setting. Students who complete the program will receive a non-accredited Master of Architecture degree. The year-long studio is at the core of the program, integrated with seminars and lectures in design theory, history, urbanism, digital applications, and building technology. Students also have the opportunity to enroll in other elective classes in the College of Environmental Design. The studio director is joined by a team of several other faculty from the department and the college. 2012-13 Studio One Program During the year-long 2012-13 studio, students will explore the role of emerging technologies in the exploration of new material properties and performances. This inquiry will in turn lead to design applications that respond to ecological concerns.
Employing specialized digital software born in the Bay Area for the animation industry, coupled with digital manufacturing methods, the studio will look at strategies for local production in a digital age to create full-scale technological artifacts and architectural propositions that emerge from the complex material ecologies of the San Francisco Bay Area. Program Dates The term of the 2012-13 Studio One program is from Thursday, August 16, 2012, to Friday, May 17, 2013. Application Process The application process for fall 2012 admission is in two phases:
Independent Design Scholar Option Note: There is also the possibility to apply for the one-year program as an independent design scholar. These proposals require a high level of focus, and should be addressed to specific faculty interests. Please make note in your application if you would like to be considered for admission as an independent design scholar. |
