Presenting Images Side by Side
There are two ways to present images side by side:

  • The regular method:
    • Install two or more images in one presentation window
    • Resize each image so they fit in only one window
    • Each image will be half as large as normally
    • Only one digital projector is needed
  • The dual projection tools method:
    • Install a multiple display video card, aka dual video card, in your laptop. Costs about $250 (October 2005)
    • Two digital projectors and a very large screen are needed
  • Dual projection classrooms
    • Hearst Field Annex Clasroom A (Winter 2006)
    • Check with UCB's Educational Technology Classroom Services and/or the Registrar's Classroom section for additional availability

Integrated Image Database & Presentation Software
UC image Service (Insight) and ARTstor are both integrated image database and presentation software packages. You can find, organize, and present images within each package. Each program has three distinct spaces that mimic the three steps of using digital images:

  • a place to find images
  • a place to organize images (making a group)
  • a place to present your images (making a presentation)
UC Image Service using Insight
  • A project of the University Libraries and California Digital Library
  • Use Insight to find, organize, and present hi res images
  • Harder to learn than ARTstor, but plays well with others
  • Export Insight images into other image software tools:
    PowerPoint, ACDsee, Keynote, ARTstor, HTML
  • Import images from SPIRO, RLG, AP, Google, personal collections
  • Importing ARTstor images into Insight is not permitted
  • Off-campus access to UC Image Service requires a one-time download of VPN (virtual Private Network)
ARTstor and the ARTstor offline image viewer (OIV)
  • A project of the Mellon Foundation and ARTstor (nothing for sale)
  • Use ARTstor to find, organize, and present hi res images
  • Easier to use than Insight, does not play well with others
  • Using ARTstor images means using ARTstor's OIV (Offline Image Viewer)
  • Use ARTstor's OIV (Offline Image Viewer) for classroom projection
  • Export of ARTstor images limited to 400 pixels at HTML files
  • Import images from SPIRO, Insight, RLG, AP, etc. into ARTstor's OIV
  • Off-campus access to ARTstor uses Proxy Service
