Eligibility:
"Outside Borrowers" are local borrowers who are not
currently teaching or matriculating at the University of
California, Berkeley. UC Extension faculty are considered
outside borrowers. Outside borrowers are eligible to use the
Visual Resources (VR) Library under certain limited
circumstances. Students at local educational institutions are
not eligible to use the Visual Resources Library.

2. Downloading digital images from SPIRO. $100 per semester |
|
| These
fees are intended to cover all costs of use, reimbursing the
Department of Architecture, the academic department that
funds the VR Library. Holders of UC Alumni cards and UC
Library blue fee cards are considered outside borrowers and
must pay the VR Library use fees.
Orientations:
All users of the Visual Resources Library are expected to
attend an orientation before first use of the collection.
Orientations cover a variety of topics, including
arrangement of the collection, circulation policies and
procedures, use of SPIRO,
and intellectual property considerations. Regularly
scheduled orientations are held three times per week

Circulation:
Slides normally circulate to outside borrowers for 24 hours. This
short loan period is intended to give priority to UC Berkeley
faculty and students. Slides may be returned to VR Library by Fed Ex
or a reliable courier service, addressed to AVRL, 494 Wurster Hall.
Please provide tracking numbers. Use of slides by outside borrowers
may not exceed a maximum of 48 hours (not counting Saturdays and
Sundays when the VR Library is closed). The VR Library staff
reserves the right to deny circulation privileges to any persons who
have previously abused borrowing privileges.
Return of Borrowed Slides:
Slides should be returned in person to the VR Library within the
48-hour borrowing period. In difficult circumstances, slides may be
returned by overnight mail with a reputable courier or a shipping
firm that uses tracking numbers. You must inform the VR Library
staff of your intent to return slides by courier or shipper.
Insurance valuation should be set at $20 per slide. Return of slides
by courier or shipper must still fall within the 48 hour maximum
loan period.
Reproduction Rights and
Duplication of Slides:
Slides may not be duplicated under any circumstances. Slides are
protected under the 1976 Copyright Act and the 1998 Digital
Millennium Copyright Act. Requests for reproduction of images will
be referred to the copyright owner. In most cases, the Visual
Resources Library is not the copyright owner. Contact the Library
Assistant, Tracy
Farbstein, for further assistance.
Non-Local Use:
The Visual Resources Library does not engage in Interlibrary Loan
requests, nor will it mail slides to prospective borrowers. Persons
desiring to borrow 35mm slides are expected to visit the Visual
Resources Library in person to pull the slides they need. Long
distance users may search the SPIRO
the image database. Many slides have been donated to the VR Library
and are available for licensing. Inquiries should include the image
id and intended use.
