  • hypotheses or questions of inquiry appropriate to the performance issue and building studied;
  • utilization of appropriate and innovative field research methods that are well-matched to the hypothesis investigated;
  • effective analysis of the data collected and clear communication of the results;
  • a clear presentation of the lessons learned by the students involved in the field study;
  • a comprehensive case study which can serve as a useful model for other students and presents meaningful or important information to the design community.

Evaluation procedure

Prior to judging, each entry will be reviewed and evaluated for eligibility by the Competition Advisor and Vital Signs Project Staff. Those which fail to meet the competition’s procedural rules, eligibility requirements, submission requirements, and mailing requirements will be disqualified. Jury members will independently review entries prior to the jury session. The jury will meet as a group to select the competition winners. The results of the competition will be announced on the Vital Signs internet site shortly after the conclusion of the jury session. Individual competition entrants will be notified of results by mail. For team entries, the member designated as the "contact person" will be notified by mail. Competition results will be sent to all faculty advisors. The administration of the schools of winning entries will also be notified of results.

PROCEDURAL RULES

Adherence to the eligibility and submission requirements is mandatory. Those entries that do not follow the instructions described in this program may be disqualified from the competition.
