Vital Signs 1998 Student Case Study Competition GENERAL INFORMATION ELIGIBILITY This competition is open to undergraduate and graduate students in ACSA member schools of architecture and ABET member schools of architectural engineering in the United States and Canada. Entries will be accepted for individual as well as team efforts. We encourage faculty members to plan a class assignment around this competition, with teams or individuals from a class submitting their own entries. All work must be done by the student(s) listed on the entry form and conducted under the direction of an architecture faculty advisor as part of a studio, lecture, seminar, or independent study course. All team members must have been enrolled during either the Fall 1997 or Spring 1998 term. Only one entry per student or team may be submitted. SCHEDULE
October 20, 1997 Information available We recognize academic calendars vary from school to school. You may submit a competition entry anytime between March 1, 1998 and June 15, 1998. Entries received after June 15, 1998 will not be accepted. FACULTY RESPONSIBILITY The administration of the Competition entries shall be conducted under the supervision of a faculty advisor and under the auspices of the school as part of a course, independent study, or thesis work, within the guidelines set forth in this program document. Refer to the eligibility criteria, submission requirements, evaluation process and criteria for guidance. The Vital Signs staff and Jury members are not available to serve as faculty advisors for case study submissions. AWARDS A total of $10,500 in cash prizes will be awarded. Prizes for winning students and their schools will be distributed to the top three entries in each of the two divisions, undergraduate and graduate, as follows: Winning Student or Student Team: School of Winning Student or Student Team: Selection of the winning entries by the jury will be based upon the evaluation criteria described later in this program. Cash awards to schools are intended to support further investigations of building performance. Honorable Mentions may be given to up to three projects at the discretion of the jury. Competition entries receiving honorable mentions will not receive cash awards. The provision of cash awards to foreign students is dependent upon visa status and regulated by Federal law. Vital Signs will make every effort to award all winning students. However, as Federal law may change, foreign students placing among the top three entrants will be required to document their visa status. Vital Signs will then determine their legal eligibility for receipt of a cash award.
