1998 Summer Training Session Vital Signs The Vital Signs Curriculum Materials Project is pleased to announce its 1998 Summer Training Session, sponsored by ACSA, The Energy Foundation, and Pacific Gas and Electric. The 1998 Training addresses building performance issues and their connection to design decisions. It assists educators interested in incorporating field studies of the performance of existing buildings into their teaching. The Training Session runs from July 7 through 11. |

On July
8 participants get an opportunity to familiarize or reacquaint themselves with instruments
used in field evaluation, in particular those contained in the Vital Signs Toolkits. Vital
Signs Equipment Toolkits are available for loan to schools. Follow this link for more
information about the Vital Signs Equipment
Toolkit loan program.
From July 9 through 11 participants will experience the case study process for themselves. We will focus on a building in Northern California, The Real Goods Solar Living Center. First we will learn about the design of the building through presentations from and discussions with members of the design team. Participants will then develop questions and "hunches" about the building's performance, which they'll examine during a site visit. Throughout all these activities we will emphasize the connection between building performance evaluation and design decision making. The Vital Signs Training Session, including
double-occupancy lodging and most meals, is offered free of charge. Participants must
provide their own transportation to and from the San Francisco Bay Area. |
