The VITAL SIGNS Curriculum Materials Project: Equipment Package
New miniature, microprocessor-based data acquisition systems have greatly increased the ease and power of performance monitoring. The microcomputer interface to some of these data acquisition systems allows us to package the software into an automated process requiring little specialized skill on the user's part. In addition, collected data go back to the laptop computer where standard pre-programmed routines can regularize data analysis.
Eight sets of the equipment specified below, through the support of the National Science Foundation under its Instrumentation and Laboratory Improvement Program, will float among architecture schools to support case study measurements. We are coupling this hardware with a proposal for seminar training sessions, hosted by the Society of Building Science Educators (SBSE), to discuss field monitoring techniques. The first of these meetings was held in August 1995 in Berkeley.
The following tables describe the Equipment Package proposed to the National Science
Foundation Instructional Laboratory Improvement Program. The proposal calls for eight sets
of this equipment to be loaned to U. S. Schools of Architecture as part of the Vital Signs
Project.
